Museum of Fine Arts (Ring)

Imperial Treasury

Vienna is a former seat of the emperors and kings of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. Because of that, it is still in possession of the original imperial insignia. Other showpieces of the Secular Treasury are the imperial crown of Austria, the two inalienable heirlooms of the Habsburgs (agate bowl and unicorn), the ceremonial cradle of Napoleon Bonaparte's son and the valuable equipment of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Habsburg relics and other religious showpieces can be seen in the neighboring spiritual treasury.

Even the outer facade of the Am Hof church is an eye-catcher, a baroque balcony, many windows and three entrances. Three popes gave the Viennese the Urbi et orbi blessing from up here. The interior of the town church surprises visitors with its size and the different styles (gothic, baroque and classicism). During a tour you will learn in detail about the architecture, the works of art and, last but not least, about the donors of the chapels or about the orders that looked after this church and the former monastery.
