BIKE TOUR THROUGH LEOPOLDSTADT

Vienna Giant Wheel

The bike tour takes us through Leopoldstadt, an important suburb of Vienna until 1850. With the centuries-old leisure paradise Prater and the oldest existing baroque garden in Vienna, the Augarten, the district located on an island of the Danube has two "green" hotspots. Many events, pieces of literature or music, sagas and legends are related to Leopoldstadt. We visit many of these places on our bikes.

BY BIKE THROUGH THE PRATER

View to the Vienna Ferris Wheel

Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte would have liked to exchange the then Parisian Tuileries for the Vienna Prater in 1805, according to a well-known quote. Vienna and the Viennese are still proud of their world-famous Prater, whether it is the Vienna Ferris Wheel, the "Wurstelprater" or the green Prater. To date, this has many functions for the Viennese and their guests. The entertainment venues and restaurants, the Ernst Happel Stadium, the Krieau racecourse and the Lusthaus at the end of the 4 km main avenue are very well known. Less well known is the Prater cottage called quarter along the Danube Canal, the pilgrimage church Maria Grün or the oldest existing bridge in Vienna at Konstantin pond. It is important to get to know the known and unknown places in the Prater and their stories.

The bicycle is an ideal vehicle to explore the 6 km² area. The approximately three-hour round trip (including a break), starting in front of the planetarium, leads us through the main avenue, parallel to the Liliputbahn (narrow gauge railway) into the Pratercottage, to the Lusthaus, Freudenau and Maria Grün. The way back takes you past the Prater Stadium to the Krieau trotting course, through the new business university, past the exhibition center, over Ausstellungsstrasse to Kaiserwiese (Imperial meadow) and the Ferris wheel.

The former noble palaces, the Karlskirche and the many places where famous composers are commemorated in Wieden, the "magnificent boulevard of the proletariat" and the social and economic museum in Margareten.
